The Beauty Around the Table

Updated: Apr 18

Rustic wooden table with ornate black candle holders and a decorative plate. Outdoor setting with a blurred background, evoking a cozy mood.

Finding meaning in the marks and the moments

My mom has owned a Shaker table for over 35 years. It’s not flashy. It doesn’t follow the latest trends. It carries dings, scratches, and signs of life. But in its simplicity, it’s quietly beautiful—timeless and elegant.

What makes this table so special isn’t its design (though I love the clean lines and understated charm). The real beauty lies in what happens around it.

It’s where we gather to share meals. It’s seen hands working through puzzles and hearts working through conversations. It’s hosted birthday cakes and bowls of soup, morning coffee and late-night laughter. It’s where life slows down enough for us to see each other—really see each other.

In a world driven by speed, upgrades, and spotless perfection, this table reminds me of what truly matters: presence. Each scuff is a memory. Each worn spot tells a story. And none of them demand to be hidden or buffed away.

This table has become more than furniture. It’s a sacred space where relationships deepen and time stretches out in the best possible way. It invites us to pause, to be real, and to remember that what we gather around matters just as much as what we gather for.

🕯️ A Gentle Invitation

  1. What’s your version of the Shaker table?

Is there a space in your life where you gather with family or friends that promotes deeper connections-whether it is a room in a house or a place outdoors?

  2. Where in your life are the worn-in places that hold the most meaning?

Think of the beautiful imperfections that you cherish because of the memories.

  3. What simple activities lead to more connection and presence?

Do you enjoy walking with loved ones? Do you gather for meals? Think about those common activites that mean so much to you.
